Trainer Code of Conduct
The non-negotiable standards every trainer agrees to before being listed on The Roster.
Last updated: January 1, 2026
Our commitment
Every trainer on The Roster works with young people. That carries a serious responsibility, and trainers who join the platform agree — in writing — to the standards below. Violations result in immediate and permanent removal, and where appropriate, referral to law enforcement and the U.S. Center for SafeSport.
What we expect from every trainer
- Maintain professional, age-appropriate communication at all times
- Hold sessions in open, observable spaces — never in private/closed-door settings
- Welcome and encourage parent observation of every session
- Use only parent-provided contact channels; never message a minor directly
- Complete annual SafeSport-compliant abuse-prevention training
- Hold current CPR & First Aid certification
- Report any safety concern about an athlete immediately
- Honor cancellation and refund policies in good faith
Strictly prohibited
- Any physical contact beyond what is necessary for skill instruction, and only with verbal consent
- One-on-one private communication with a minor outside The Roster platform
- Photography or video of athletes without explicit, written parental consent
- Transportation of an athlete in a personal vehicle
- Romantic, sexual, or otherwise inappropriate conduct of any kind
- Use of alcohol, drugs, or any impairing substance before or during sessions
- Discrimination or harassment based on race, gender, religion, sexuality, ability, or any other protected characteristic
- Soliciting bookings outside the platform to avoid fees or oversight
Mandatory reporting
All trainers acknowledge their status as mandatory reporters under applicable state law. Any suspicion of abuse, neglect, or imminent harm to a minor must be reported immediately to the appropriate authorities and to The Roster Trust & Safety team at safety@theroster.com.
Enforcement
Violations of this Code result in one or more of the following, depending on severity: written warning, temporary suspension, permanent removal from the platform, public marking of the trainer's status, and reporting to SafeSport and/or law enforcement.
Decisions are made by a dedicated Trust & Safety review team. In any case involving potential harm to a minor, we err on the side of the athlete and act first, review second.
Reporting a concern
If you witness or experience conduct that violates this Code, please report it immediately to safety@theroster.com. All reports are reviewed within 24 hours, and within 1 hour for urgent safety issues. Reports may be submitted anonymously.
